On Friday, September 11, 2026, just before the doors of IBC opened, The Hive Group brought broadcasters, technology providers and distribution leaders together at The Traveller in Amsterdam for Where Does the Signal Go Next? Navigating the Distribution Transition. It was the second Hive Group executive breakfast on the subject, following the Satellite Replacement Breakfast at NAB Show in Las Vegas, and the first with a European voice alongside the North American one.
Three messages ran through the event. The first is that the FCC’s order to auction 160 MHz of the 200 MHz upper C-band leaves only 40 MHz for incumbent users, so US broadcasters have to find something “substantially similar” to a service they regard as the gold standard. The second is that nobody on stage expected a single technology to do that: Ken Fuller put it as “probably a mixture… a hybrid solution”, and Matthew Goldman reminded the room that whatever is built, “we have to stay on the air”. The third is that the transition is as much an opportunity as a replacement, with Richard Lindsay-Davies asking what the industry would build “if we had one Earthshot to reinvent TV”.
